Here is a list of friendly reminders for you this season:
Get some space and talk out the tension
You don’t have to say yes to all invitations
You may be invited to a large number of family functions or friendly gatherings, some near and some far. It is up to you how involved in the festive season you want to be and how many get togethers you attend. It is totally ok to say no and decline an invite if you don’t want to go.
If you find yourself being pushed to go, be honest and explain you need rest and time to prepare for your Christmas.
It’s ok to give yourself a break
Take a moment to stop, breathe and rest. Try and drink your cuppa while it’s still hot, have a nice long hot bath, go shopping with friends or even take your partner out to a lovely dinner.
You can rest
The festive season goes by so quickly, it’s important to give yourself a break, savour any moment you can take a few moments to yourself. If you can, sleep in and recover from this busy year.
You can’t be at 100%, 100% of the time
Pushing yourself to function at 100% all of the time leads to feeling overwhelmed and stressed. Everyone needs time to do things that rejuvenate them, that is especially true during the festive. Schedule in things that make you happy.
Give yourself permission to celebrate the way you want
Everyone enjoys different parts of the festive season, balancing out the things that you find drain your energy or that are difficult with things that make you happy and lift your energy is the best combination. It’s ok to celebrate the way you want this season.
Plan out your time to avoid overwhelm
If you are a planned person, you will be familiar with an organised diary/schedule, which helps you reduce stress and feeling overwhelmed. If you are not used to planning, the festive season is a good place to start.
Develop a morning and evening routine that works for you
Even during the festive season it’s important to create a routine that works for you. Your morning routine could include:
- Wake at a time that works for you
- Make your bed
- Recite affirmations
- Get some exercise
- Meditate
- Take a shower
- Eat a healthy breakfast
Your evening routine could include:
- Plan goals for the following day
- Reflect on the days achievements
- Meditate
- Journal
As we embark on this festive journey, let's carry the spirit of gratitude, kindness, and mindfulness. Cherish the moments, connect with loved ones, and savour the joy of the season. May your days be merry, your heart be light, and the memories you create linger long after the decorations are put away. Happy holidays!
