By taking a few minutes each day to reflect on your thoughts and feelings, you can gain a greater sense of clarity and calm. 

There are many ways you can clear your mind, you can talk to a friend or go for a run or take a lovely bath and read a book or even journal. In this blog post we are going to focus on journaling as a tool for reducing stress.  





Why is journaling so useful?

We all have stress in our lives. Whether it's from work, school, relationships, or just the general chaos of the world, stress is pretty much inevitable. But that doesn't mean we have to let it take over our lives. And that's where journaling comes in.

By taking the time to sit down and write out your thoughts and feelings, you're giving yourself a chance to process everything that's going on in your head. You're able to get all those worries and anxieties out of your brain and onto paper, where you can take a step back and look at them objectively. Plus, when you write things down, you're essentially giving yourself permission to let them go. You don't have to carry those thoughts and feelings around with you all day (or all week, or all year) anymore.

Journaling is a customisable experience, completely individualised. You can write as much or as little as you want, and you can do it whenever and wherever you want. Some people like to write first thing in the morning as a way to start their day off on the right foot, while others prefer to journal right before bed as a way to clear their minds before sleeping. There's no right or wrong way to do it - just find what works for you and stick with it.






What strategies can be used?

Some people use brain dumping as a way of clearing their mind. 

Brain dumping is a technique of simply writing, without prompts or a clear idea of what you are writing. With brain dumping the idea is to keep writing until you have no more words, not worry about whether it makes sense or has the correct grammar. Just simply put pen to paper and wire abs keep writing until all of your thoughts and feelings are out on the paper, clearing your mind. 

Brain dumping is one way to clear your mind and another is to use specific journal prompts to help inspire your writing and let go of all the thoughts that are taking up space in your mind. You see, sometimes the thoughts in our head can feel like a jumbled mess, and putting them down on paper can help us sort through them. Journal prompts can give us a specific topic or question to focus on, which can make the process of organising our thoughts much more manageable.





Here are 5 journal prompts to help you clear your mind

  1. What are the top three things that are causing stress or weighing on your mind right now? Write about each one in detail, including any emotions that come up.
  2. Write about a time when you felt truly at peace. What were you doing? Where were you? What made you feel that way? How can you recreate that feeling in your current life?
  3. Reflect on a recent accomplishment or success. What did you do to achieve it? How did it make you feel? What did you learn from the experience?
  4. Write about something that you've been avoiding or procrastinating on. Why have you been avoiding it? What steps can you take to make progress on it?
  5. Imagine that you have a blank slate and can create your ideal life. What does it look like? What kind of work do you do? What kind of relationships do you have? What activities bring you joy? Write about your ideal life in as much detail as possible.



Why should journal prompts be used?

I can't stress enough the importance of self-discovery, self-growth, and self-love. It's no secret that life can be overwhelming, and sometimes we just need an outlet to express our thoughts and emotions. That's where journaling comes in. Journaling is an excellent tool for self-reflection and self-improvement, and that's why I highly recommend it to anyone looking to enhance their mental wellbeing.

Journal prompts, in particular, are a great way to get started with journaling. They provide a framework for your thoughts and help you to dive deep into your subconscious. By answering thought-provoking questions, you can uncover patterns in your behavior, identify your core values, and gain a better understanding of who you are as a person.
