Hi, I’m Jodie, a social worker and mother to three (twins plus one). In the whirlwind of raising three young children, finding moments of peace can feel like chasing a fleeting dream. With toys scattered like confetti and the symphony of giggles and squeals echoing through the house, I realised I needed a sanctuary within the chaos – a place where I could exhale and rejuvenate.

That's when the idea of my calm corner was born. Nestled in the heart of our living area, it became my haven, my oasis of tranquility amidst the tumult. Equipped with a plush lounge chair, adorned with soft cushions, it beckoned me to sink into its comforting embrace.

The key was to ensure that even during my brief respite, my children remained safely within sight. So, I devised a plan: I set them up with an engaging activity at the nearby dining table. With crayons and colouring books spread out before them, they were engrossed in their world of creativity, blissfully unaware of my momentary absence.

As I settled into my cozy corner, I allowed the gentle rhythm of my breathing to anchor me to the present. With a book in hand, I embarked on a journey to distant lands or immersed myself in tales of courage and resilience. The words on the page became my companions, transporting me to realms where worries melted away like snowflakes in the sun.

Fifteen minutes – that was all I granted myself. Fifteen precious minutes to indulge in self-care, to replenish my spirit before rejoining the whirlwind of parenthood. In those fleeting moments, I found solace, clarity, and a renewed sense of purpose.

My calm corner isn't just a physical space; it's a state of mind. It's a reminder that amidst the chaos of life, I possess the power to carve out moments of serenity, to prioritise my well-being without guilt or hesitation. And as I emerge from my sanctuary, refreshed and invigorated, I embrace the beautiful chaos of motherhood with renewed vigour, knowing that within its folds, I carry the essence of tranquility wherever I go.
